he Rubber Plant absolutely loves the sun. It prefers direct yet filtered light during the majority of the day and does well when given at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily. With the Rubber Plant, it’s all about strategic placement! So, what you must remember is that the variegated Ficus elastica needs enough sunlight to be able to retain its patterns and colors. So, finding the right spot with filtered direct light is a must! Watering The Ficus elastica prefers infrequent watering. Giving it too much water will easily suffocate its roots and lead to root rot due to overwatering. So, water this plant only once a week to ensure that it is aptly watered. Oftentimes, if you’re unsure about when to water your plant, it can easily be over or underwatered. To avoid this, you can use  that will tell you exactly when your plant needs water. Blue indicates that it is perfectly watered whereas white means that it needs water. Humidity Needs Moderate to high humidity levels is what this plant needs. So, ensure proper humidity levels by spraying or misting the plant regularly. If you’re unable to do so, place a humidity tray near your plant. You can make this at home with just a tray, pebbles, and water. Fill your tray with water to the top and line it with pebbles for effective humidity control. Fertilization When in its dormant phase in the winter months, the variegated Rubber plant does not need fertilization. However, in its growing season, - which is during the Spring and Summer months - this plant needs fertilization on a proper schedule. For this, you must use a balanced and slow release fertilizer. You can use  to provide your precious plant with slow-release and all-round fertilization.
